Sponge completely covering frogspawn???

I also posted this in my reef club forums...

I was looking at my frogspawn last night, which is pretty big and even when its not fully extended covers most of its bony skeleton up so I don't see much of it. Yesterday, I noticed a purple piece of sponge sticking out of the polyps. Uopn closer investigation, this sponge seems to be covering most of the bony part of the frogspawn (it has 6 heads right now), and is binding it to the rock. I had it inside a hollow that fit the skeleton perfectly, so that I could remove it when necessary. Is this sponge bad? I'm worried the sponge may "strangle" the frogspawn or hinder the growth. What should I do? I can't pull it out as the sponge has it stuck to the rocks. Should I cut the sponge with a razorblade and them pull the frogspawn and trim what sponge off I can get, but won't the remnants just grow into more sponge? Or is this not a concern? I love my pretty frogspawn and don't want anything to happen to it.

I would leave it unless it starts interfering with the heads themselves, hindering extension. Dead/dying sponge in your tank can cause serious water issues.
