sponge help

Hello all,

I am new to the hobby and I have had my tank up for 6 months now
I have hermits, snails, clown fish and gobies.
I just got brave about 3 weeks ago and bought a frag rock that had
button polyps, feather duster worm and a black and white sponge like
creature on the back end of it.
Well I noticed the other day holes in the sponge creature, I take it that it was eating. Well the sponge is growing it has over run one of the
button polyps and is fast encroaching another one.
What do I do?
Is the sponge going to take over my little frag rock?
Will the button polyps hurt the sponge?

Well, it's not very common for a sponge to be competitive with a coral colony, but it can happen. You should be able to just physically remove the sponge (ie grab it and pull off) if you think it's causing trouble.
