Hi all,

Do you guy think if there would be any problem if i attached those car wash sponge to my skimmer output to reduce micro bubbles escaping? Are they reef safe?

Of course i would not use a used one....:D

Cheers

Possibly. What kind of skimmer do you have?

I used a filter sock on mine. It doesn't block the flow and is easy to take out and clean.

get one of those blue wet dry sponges from your LFS, i just squeeze it between the acrylic on my sump so that the water flowing out of the skimmer flows directly over the sponge... no bubbles whatsoever!!! i would assume that a natural sponge would have more of a tendency to hold bacteria and mold. i would go with a fake sponge...

Tried stuffing sponge into my baffles but then it restricted the flow by quite a bit and there is a significant difference in water level between the compartment. Micro bubble still manage to escape into the main tank.

The next best alternative is to sponge up my skimmer output.....

The sponge i found at the LFS is not dense enough for my liking. Was washing my car and realise it is a of good size and very dense.

All of my skimmer output must go thru a huge ball of cheato before it reaches the baffle chambers. Works great.

Don't put a regular car sponge in salt!Is your skimmer in the sump and what do you use for your return water?

Using the aquaclear 5000 pump.... Hmmm even those synthetic car sponge are not reef safe?

I was advise not to use filter sock as it gets clog up too easily and require very regular maintenence.... I havent tried it yet but might give it a try today...

Micro bubbles are a pest!!!! :mad2:
