Sponges - good or bad?

I've got a bunch of yellow stuff growing on my rocks, I assume it is sponge (in shadows, little tubes, feels like sponge, etc.). Is this good? It has spread like crazy the last month.

i had the same thing.. got a copperband and now they are gone...

they are not "bad" as they do filter the water...

Usually sponges are good. They filter the water. They usually grow best in skimmerless tanks.

Depending on the species, some like very bright light, others like to be in the dark.

Normally, you don't want to touch them as the oils from your skin can plug up their pores.
