Anyone know of a good resource as far as care and management of marine sponges. I trying to find effective feeding and care for a blue sponge i picked up the other day.

Thanks

ive had no luck at the store i work at with colorful sponges. that only ones that seem to do ok are black and white sponges.

i would like to know if anyone has had any luck though!

I've been rocking this Haliclona Blue guy for about a year now. I got it from another aquarist who had it for 2 years I think. it really hardy, grows super slow and does not like bright light. If you see algae growing on it, move it to a shady area. provide it good water flow and I don't feed it anything. I moved it around to a few tanks and it left little sponges on the rocks and those are slowly growing too. I would emphasize the slow growing, but they look so nice.

Yup, that one is photosynthetic. Be careful with it though, if it dies it can kill your entire tank. I really wanted one of these and researched it and found several people that have had their tanks crash when this thing died.

Very nice piece. The only ones that grow in my tank are the yellow ones that pop up every once in awhile.

Nice piece , love the color. Fauna Marine has a sponge powder food that may aid you in being successful with sponges..

If those sponge foods work, that'd be great. I have several hitchhiker sponges, I'd love to help them grow. Right now I have translucent white, yellow, blue, pink, and orange. Some of them are pretty small right now though.

I've been using "Sponge Power" for the past few months, and I can say it does seem to boost the sponge growth in my system. It definately sparked new growth in the sponges within my live rock. I noticed faster growth with the sponges within my live rock shortly after dosing the product.

With the larger ornamental sponges I've aquired it's been hit or miss, but I'm sure the additions don't hurt any. I also dose Fauna Marin Ultra Min F for sponges as well.

I love sponges, and I think they add diversity and color to a reef aquarium.

Airwolf75 that blue sponge is AMAZING!!!...great pic! I know what you are saying about frags from that particular sponge.....they are definately slow growing IME.

Here's some of my sponges that popped up on my live rock...as well as those I added to my system:

Nice sponges! Have you had any algae problems from the sponge power?

No...I've had no noticable algae problems since adding the Sponge Power to my sysytem. I do however have a good CUC, and a One Spot FoxFace that is quick to eat any algae it sees.

Incredible pics I noticed what appears to be a coral that I have in my tank as well in the third pic reeftank (021.jpg (56.9 KB, 14 views)) its orange and reddish. I'm embarrased to admit I have no idea what its called where its from or much else about it,lol...what do you know about it?

Thanks oh by the by where do you get the Fauna Marin F

How long did it take before you first noticed sponges growing? And how old are your sponges in general, best guess.

My tank is new as of Jan 6th. I had a itty bitty dime sizes piece of black sponge given to me during my tank seeding, and just the other day some orange and a bluish pieces also. I rubbed one of the orange pieces under a little overhang after reading about people doing that to propogate new sponge growth.
