Spongodes Questions

What causes m. spongodes to plate? Mine plates, and plates, and plates, but there's very little vertical growth. I assume it's because of the flow it's getting...or not getting?

I thought it was a goner not too long after I added it to the tank. I considered pulling it, but figured I'd leave it be (and I epoxied/ superglued the crap out of it's plug :D ), and sure enough it bounced back in a big time way.

I'll have to get a decent picture of it when the lights come on.

Here it is just shy of a month ago.

I figure flow, low flow in that area maybe...more curious than complaining.

Just shot a quick pic, under straight actinic.

Like I said, not really complaining. Good growth & color...can't complain about that.

Maybe its competing for space. I had a milli I placed close to a cap and I noticed that the milli would not branch it would just encrust. It wasn’t till I moved it that it started branching. My guess is that your monti is doing the same…possibly because of the neighboring acro. JMO

I think they plat in higher flows....when I had Koralias it branched....with mp40s it plates

i disagree, i have very high flow for my 75g... and here is mine... my friend i got mine from, had low flow, and all his did was plate... but really, in the end, who friggen' knows lol...

Unique setup Pallobi. I also have one and am running mp40s in 80% max at times. All its doing is branching. I think the hypothesis of competing for light and/or space might be a better one. Again who knows.

Thanks for the input guys.

Competing for light seems to make sense. A good chuck of it is shaded by that acro that you see in the picture, and another millie on the other side. So maybe it's reaching out to get some light.

It seems to get decent flow, not blasted by tons, but I would really consider it in a low flow area of the tank.

Mine plated out just like your and I was wondering what was up. after it got to about 5-6 inches around ti started going vertical (about time) also in a high inderict flow
