Spots of Diatom Algae yet reading 0 PO4

Thought I would chime in here as I am having a similar problem with the brown stringy stuff (dinoflagellates) in my frag tank only but not my display. This stuff seems to love growing on my egg crate.

I have a convict tang, starry blenny, with torchus and turbo snails. This stuff seems to take over.

Nitrates= 0
Phosphates = 0.05

I would remove the egg crate, i too got dinos because of the egg crate i decided to put into my main display to hold some frags. It was a very bad idea. So i took it out and siphoned all the dinos everyday for like 2 or 3 weeks and they out of nowhere disappeared. How i siphoned them was i got a small bucket from home depot and made some holes into it then added some filter floss ( cheap pillow from walmart ) and put it into the sump and started the siphon dumping the water into the small bucket filtering out the dinos but keeping the water. One other thing i didnt do any water changes during this process. Was a pain but they went away and have not seen them since.
