spots on blue tang!!!

Hey,

I was checking out my reef today and noticed that my blue tang had faded spots on his body. He ate as well as always, I just don't know if this is normal. Anyone seen this or think it's normal?

At first I thought it was Ick, because he is very hard to get a close look at (Really active swimmer) but after studying him all day I could not see any salt grain like attachments on his skin. The fading has gone away a little bit. I think he may have either gotten to close to the RBTA or grazed himself on the LR. what do you think? Fyi, I have dealt with Ick before and this does not look like it.

Can't be sure from the picture but in the photo it does not look like ich to me.

I've been trying all day to get a good picture, but this tang is camera shy...LOL.... I will keep trying and post some tomorrow

could be tang stress marks. looks too big for ich.
any big changes lately?

how long have you had the fish?

looks too big and faded to be ich. to me it looks like the fish ran into something. or it could be marine velvet disease. those are my only guesses.

I've had this tang for almost a year now. When i got him, he had Ick. I treated with Garlic and ginger and within a couple of days, spots were gone. Never had issues up until now. I looked at him Today and the spots got much better so I agree that I think he just grazed up on LR or something, but I think he will be okay now. I would have gone crazy if he died, he was my 3rd addition. Thanks to all for the help, This forum is the best for advice

The fish obviously overcame the initial ich infestation and likely developed a level of resistance as a result. It is very likely the ich is still in our system and hosting fish at low levels unseen in the nose mouth and gills. Garlic and ginger probably had little to no effect.

My Blue tang always has a couple small marks on her. Been that way since we got her as a nickel sized baby a year and a half ago. Eats like a horse and is active as can be. I would just observe and see if your tang starts acting different.

Doesnt look like any ick I've seen. Too big and flat. Ick is small and looks like sprinkled salt. Could possibly be scars from previous infestations that will show when he is stressed though.

Could he of gotten burned by anemones or from pistol shrimp? Although when its from a pistol it usually is only one or two spots and heals in a couple of days.

Looks like he was trying to rub the ick off him on the rocks that would be my guess.
