Spots on clownfish... Stung from anemone or ich?

I purchased a set of breeding clowns from a fellow reefer and I have them in QT for observation, and noticed the female has 3 spots on one side and two on the other located in the center white bar

They look too big to be ich, could this be from an anemone sting? The tank I got them from had a huge RBTA that hosted these clowns and a huge (like 3 foot across) carpet anemone in it

I don't want to copper treat unless I have to as they are very healthy other than these mystery spots



This is the best picture I could get. The white specs in are in the water and from the glass but you can see the 3 dots in the middle white bar. They are raised bumps when you look at them in person

Any advice would be appreciated

What are the clowns behavior like? any scratching, rapid breathing, lethargy?

You should not use copper at all, If i were in your shoes i would start tank transfer method. At least you can rule out ich. I run all new fish through TTM and then observation after for velvet/brook and such.

excellent advice. When was the last wet item added to the tank of the seller?

He said it has been months since anything was added but since I can't know for sure I am making sure I am being proactive since I want to keep the system clean


No other symptoms, scratching, or anything. They look like pimples and not like ich I have dealt with before. I will observe another 2 days and if needed will start ttm on day 3 if there is indication of more spots or any changes in behavior

Did the fish came with it or did it develop recently?
I've seen these before on clownfish (always in the white bars) and they rather seemed to be scars, likely of a bite, sting or past infection. The ones my fish had never changed.

Yeah mine has it also, for like 7 months already, the don't go away or get any worse. They are just there.

It was on it when I got it

I think it's scaring or a sting from that carpet anemone as she kept hiding by it when we tried to get her out of his reef

Took hours before we could get her, the male just swam right into the net right away. Maybe he wanted a divorce!

The more I look at them I think they are not anything to worry but I'm going to QT/observe for 4-6 weeks before I open the valves and let that tank feed off my reef sump

It's isolated now with its own heater and sponge filter so if there is any concern I can sterilize this tank and transfer them to another before I bring it back online to my system
