SPS and Mag

So I used to have SPS and had a nitrate crash that killed all of them. Been about 9 months since i got my nitrates to 0 and now started SPS again. Well I obtained some from a friend but only my caps survived. I never really worried or cared cause if I kept SPS it meant more work. (I should state that I have a thriving LPS collection so no nitrate problem or amonia) But I now am able to purchase some nice sized colonies of SPS and want to figure out my problem. I did param checks and my Mag was at 950 alk was at 5.9 dkh and 400 calcium. Could those be my problem? I got my params all correct and now my caps look alot better.
Any Advice? I really want to get these colonies.

yeah I started up my dosing pumps again and got my mag up to currently 1275 and continuing to 1400 and alk is 9 dkh and calcium is 450. But im wondering if that is why my stuff was dying

ur levels are fine! But if you brought them up within a couple of hours then thats the problem! The key in the end is really not exact numbers but staying within a range. the more stable the better!

Yes, these numbers are exactly what killed your SPS assuming your water quality is good otherwise. I think your current numbers are ok. I shoot for 9dkh, 420 cal, 1400 mag. Keep the numbers close to what I listed and your SPS should be ok.

No i did not bring them up fast. I did it over a 5 day period with the alk and calcium and am still bringing mag up. Thanks for the input. Im at 9 dkh right now and 440 caclium.

So long as you maintain those parameters the you should be good to go.

Your old parameters could possibly be one of the cause of you not being able to keep SPS.

Your #'s seem right but you never gave po4 levels... With levels like that if you still have problems I would look at po4 levels...
