i have a 40" oddysea light fixture with 2x250 MH and 4 PC's and i am looking to upgrade the ballasts. I was looking at the sunlight supply galaxy dual 250 ballast, but i was wondering if there is a preferred ballast by SPS keepers. Is there one ballast that may give me better color to my coral? ive noticed that coral tends to not look as good under my lights as the do at the store, or in friends tanks. Thanks !

The ballast doesn't really make a difference in color, what K bulbs are you using?

Odyssea ballasts are notorious for under-driving bulbs. So you may be running 2x175. Driving the bulbs to a full 250 could help coloration IMO (although im no expert feel free to correct me).
Most people upgrade to Ice Caps, i hear its a plug and play type scenario. I would do a few google searches on it.

^ I agree, but changing the crappy stock 10k bulbs to good quality 14k bulbs will make a huge difference.

I have the 48" version light by that Odyssea with the 4 T5 bulbs. I replaced the ballasts with the Galaxy dual 250w, 14k Phoenix bulbs and 4 ATI Blue Plus bulbs, looks real good

I would personally not go with an Ice Cap ballast. They are good ballasts if you get one that works. I have heard from my LFS that there rejection rate is 20% or 1 out of every 5 ballasts don't work.

not so sure I would believe your LFS on this comment. Do they sell them?
+1 Never had a problem with ice cap. Sounds like they are just trying to sell a different brand that they stock. In fact I dont think I have ever heard a negative comment about them besides the one above.
