SPS , and Ozone ??

Please state your feelings , about the use of ozone in an SPS tank .

Do you use ozone , would you use ozone , do you not see the need to use ozone , or would you not use ozone .

If you do use ozone Please state the type of injection method you use , straight into the skimmer , a coil reactor , or a reaction chamber .

Why do you feel the need to add ozone to an SPS tank? (just asking the question...)

I have used ozone many years ago in FO tanks. It def increased skimming ability but IMHO the skimmers of today do a killer job without it. Also most SPS tanks are not that heavily stocked with fish and we are not dumping food in at a rate standard skimmers can't keep up. IMO, many SPS tanks I have seen are actually probably overskimming (TABOO!!). Anyhow that is my opinion. I am sure many/most would agree but you know what they say about opinions.

Ive been using ozone in my sps tank for about 2 years. I like fish a lot so I have high bioload. I use ozone to break down nutrients and allow me to have more fish. I use two 100mg ozone generators feeding into reeflo 250's.

I use ozone on my SPS tanks 100mg, 150g tank, would not run a tank without it! Fed into my skimmer!

Ozone here 300mg/h Sanders with MTC PRO 240D reactor, Carbon Air filter and Carbon chamber on the return. I also run 150w Smart HO Emperor Aquatic U.V sterilizer. BTW, i love fish too

Why I am asking is , I have an ozone generator , and I am a bit apprehensive about hooking it up . I don't want to do any harm to anything in my tank . I know ozone can be really nasty .

i use ozone but i have a red sea 50mgh unit that i have turned all the way down

the water is super clear after a week running the ozone

I used to use ozone and during use the water became super clear . Other then that there was no advantages to using, for my application. I do know you need to be careful with it.

I've been using ozone for about 10 months. My main reason for using it is to replenish oxygen that my carbon dosing removes. I converted a cheap commercial reactor (after checking with the manufacture that its ozone safe) into my ozone reactor and seems to be working fine.
A side benefit is that the water is really clear!

I also have a high bioload in my sps reef with a bunch of big, fat tangs that I feed several times every day. I ran ozone for awhile in my sps tank along with UV and carbon. At first I noticed improvement in clarity. My ozone generator stopped working and there was no noticeable change in anything. I have since upgraded my skimmer and that is the best improvement out of any change I have ever made as far as the response I get from the color of my corals. I think that if your skimmer is underpowered and does not really oxygenate your water, then ozone would be a good idea.

For those that use ozone, how do you position the carbon such that you remove any excess ozone? How often do you change the carbon? Anything else that we should know?

I don't know about that, there seems to have been a real shift from the idea of "all corals need is light to grow" to "you need to feed corals too" (whether its fish poop or coral food). Now whether or not our skimmers keep up with this... who knows.

I know for once I probably have an oversized skimmer (BM250 on a 180g tank with 6 fish), but my tank is far from being spotless, I get detritus, I get cyano on the detritus, I get diatoms on the glass.

I have used Ozone for...I think the past 14 years or so of the 20.8 years I've been in the hobby. Crystal clear untinted High redox potential water is a good thing.
