SPS Changing colors

Lighting is a secondary issue right now. If you dont get the water parameters in line, you will likely have a crash and all corals will be lost.

OK I did my first of Seven days of water changing. Today I did 25 gallons. I will test the water on Monday to see If they start to drop.
Wish me Luck

stop dosing the kent junk, and ust kalk for top off

use baking soda

2 is very low for alk, im surprised your corals arent' doing worse than turning green.
twon8 I would like to know why you think Kent is Junk? I have very good results with it.

IME higher levels of DOC's [NO3 PO4] in your water generally translates into higher levels of zooxanthelea within your corals. Better water quality = better color :)

BINGO!

Tank levels
pH = 8.8
Nitrate = 0
Phosphate = 0
Calcium = 680
Alkalinity = 2.0 mEq/L

I have not put any PH buffer-kdh in my tank for more than 5 years.
I also have not put Calcium Supplement in 5 years .
I do not use kalkwasser.
I can not under stand why they are off the charts

Your parameters may be out of wack because your Mg is also affected. If you continue to do the water changes and SLOWLY change things toward normal, you should get things back in line. When you have things adjusted, a cheap way to go about equalizing your system is to use RHF's 2 part additives. Check out
reefvideos.com for an easy explaination, then if you want to do the reading....

twon8 I would like to know why you think Kent is Junk? I have very good results with it.
i meant junk as general term for the group of additives; but i personally fell they are not needed, and mostly water. i am all for a two or three part supplementation or kalk or ca reactor, but beyond that i don't know why anyone would want or need to add anything to their reef tank.

the only supplement im familiar with is the essential elements, i used it once three years ago, still have the nearly full bottle

while you may have very good results, you can't say your good results are due to the kent; they are one of many variables going into the miniecosystem that is your reef tank.

i have good results without kent products, so i can say they are not needed.

twon8 It is hard for me two do water changes couple of times a week let alone once a week. I may go three to four weeks and some times one two months
That is why I use them.
I am trying to do water changes more often

Twice a month 15% water changes is sufficient to keep up with trace elements. You can do that. And save the money on supplements and put it in your coral fund!

Can you mix up a batch of water with that salt and let it run with a powerhead for a couple of days and test it before adding it to the tank?

OK I Tested my tank water and it has been 6 days since I started to do my 25 gallon water changes every day.

I had
Tank levels
pH = 8.8
Nitrate = 0
Phosphate = 0
Calcium = 680
Alkalinity = 2.0 mEq/L

Now I am at
Tank levels
pH = 8.4
Nitrate = 0
Phosphate = 0
Calcium = 520
Alkalinity = 3.0 mEq/L
I Guss I should do this until I am range?
So any input would relly help me!!!!

I would like to say Thank you,
Daniel

I say get that alk to between 3.2 and 3.5 and keep it there. You can use baking soda to do this, but be carefull, small amounts.

Don't add any CA until your CA drops to about 430 (normal growth will drop this fast), then dose to keep it there.

Looking allot better though:

JMHO,
Whiskey

Much better. Wiskey has given you good advice. Focus on the alk and monitor the CA as it drops down into NSW range.

You can back off on the water changes, maybe go to two times a week for now.

How is the tank reacting? Do things look happier?

As Of wright now the coral Looks the same!! except the water looks bluer!! I no that sounds weird.
I have been looking in getting new lamps for my tank. I hope some one can help me on this. I am running 3 BlueLine E-Ballast is an electronic metal halide ballast 175 watt and 3 175watt Blue line super white lams. I do have two 72" URI VHO Super Actinic R bulbs. What will be a good lamp for this.
I am looking for a lamp that will gives crisp white and blue? I do not want my Tank to be all blue.
I am looking at
175 watt Reefluk 10,000k
175 watt blueline 10,000k + (14000)
175 watt Iwasaki 14,000k

I've heard good things about the Iwasaki 14k and I think the color is what you are looking for too.
