test for phosphates also

Kent is junk....far of NSW levels...hope you test every batch and adjust CA, ALK, and MG
phosphates are 0

OK today is Sept /24/ 2006 and I just tested the water. I am getting there slowly.

Sept/14/ 2006
I had at first
Tank levels
pH = 8.8
Nitrate = 0
Phosphate = 0
Calcium = 680
Alkalinity = 2.0 mEq/L

Sept/ 21/ 2006
Now I am at
Tank levels
pH = 8.4
Nitrate = 0
Phosphate = 0
Calcium = 520
Alkalinity = 3.0 mEq/L
I Guss I should do this until I am range?
So any input would relly help me!!!!

Sept/ 24/2006
pH = 8.4
Nitrate = 0
Phosphate = 0
Calcium = 500
Alkalinity = 3.0 mEq/L

Calcium only came down 20 but that is better than going up!!!
I would like to say Thank you,
Daniel:rollface:

Very good almost there. You would like to get your ALk up a tad. Baking soda will do that for you. Search around in the RHF threads and you will find how much to use. Calcium will come down on its own through some dilution and the tank's usage.

Keep it up. No dosing still except the baking soda.

Soon you will need to think about a two part additive. Not yet but soon, stability or maintaining the numbers will be the key.

I wouldn't worry about doing so many water changes. IMO too many cause issues with stability. Let your Calcium drop down naturally when it is high and dose your alk up with baking soda like mentioned. Baking soda can drop your ph temporarily but unless you dose a ton, it's not too bad.

I do water changes once a month or even once every 2 months if I'm busy. All you need to dose imo is calcium and alk. Check magnesium every 3 weeks and dose that if needed as well.

If you have a good export, then you should be fine between water changes. However, I'd recommend once every 2 weeks of at least 10 percent or once a month of 20%.

Having a good honkin skimmer and some macro algae makes the world of difference.

The reason I am doing so many water changes is because My calcium was 680 and my PH was 8.8.and it has been that high for more than 5 years.

Get those new reeflux bulbs? Its what I run over my tank. Of course mine are 400 watts but the blue spike in color is amazing, especially for a high PAR 10K bulb.

The reason it is that high is because you are dosing something. Calcium does not naturally rise unless you add it. Either your salt mix has a super high concentration or that Kent stuff is nothing but calcium. You need to find out what is in what you are dosing or just stop dosing it.

Raising your alk will balance out your calcium and cause it to drop. Water changes daily is not going to help with stability. Yes I'd recommend maybe once a week or every 2 weeks but unless you are having ammonia issues or something drastic, I'd stop on the big changes and find out the reason WHY your calcium keeps going up. And like mentioned prior, I'm pretty confident it is that Kent bottle you are tossing in.

I put my new Reeflux 10,000k lamps in to day. All I got to say is MY GOD!!!! THIS IS ONE HELL OF A GOOD LAMP!!!! I like the color very much!!!!

Are the blues the most intense thing you have ever seen? IUnfortunatley, most folks report the blue spike dissipates over time. About 2 -3 months usually. Enjoy the ride.
