Sps colors faded? Aewf reminder!!

Hey everyone. Ive had a few acros that lost their color over the last month or so. Bright colors faded out. Looking at the corals it was hard to tell what was wrong. All the other non acro SPS in my tank are doing great. I finally decided it was time to to Dip the corals. I used Lugols solution because thats all I had. To my surprise there were about 10 or more AEFW on my corals. The worst part was these critters were all about 1/4" long. Pretty big for an AEFW. Unfrotunatley I couldnt get pictures to post. Just want to remind everyone!! These little bugs are virtually invisible. The acros in question were on maricultured plugs so I was able to give them a close up inspection. Even with 20/20 Eye sight, I still couldnt see any AEFW. Just another AEFW warning!!

great post .
just a reminder always dip what you get. i have a friend who has a beautiful 125 and he lost everything to AEFW. he had a dozen small colonies size of baseballs. and he had to toss them all.

I dip all my new corals in Revive...Does that kill these little pests? i dip for like 4min then use a turkey baster to blow the frag off before i place in my tank.

No, you have to dip AND QT. If you only dip once, you might as well not dip at all.

I got them even when I dipped because the eggs got through. Many LFSs now dip corals, but don't give them the 4-6 QT with repeated dips required to stunt the lifecycle and get all the eggs. This can create a false sense of security -- you dip and nothing comes off (because the dip at the LFS got the adults), then 2 weeks later, the eggs that were missed hatch in your DT, and the rest is history.

ok makes sense thanks!

I had to put my corals back in the display tank after the dip = ( Ive been meaning to get a QT going but havent had the time. Next time the QT tank will be frist priority. Ive been looking for Revive coral dip but my local fish store doesnt carry it. I plan on QT'ing all corals and alternating dips between revive and Lugols. I dipped my corals for 15 minutes in Lugols using 40 drops per gallon of water. It seemed to make the AEFW disorieinted but didnt kill them. They probably would have stuck to the corals but I blasted them off with a bastor. I still cant beleive the size of them! Thought for sure you could see them with the naked eye. I was sadly mistaken. I will try and keep you guys updated with my progress on this.

Here is a pic of the corals that were infected. Blue Acro and what used to be a green acro with purple tips. Very sad I didnt cath this sooner.
