SPS coral help

Hello,

I have this coral in the photo attached. For starters I am not sure what kind of SPS it is and as you can see I have 2 white things attached to it.. The white things are all over my tank and sump. This is my 1st SPS coral. I started with a small one until I know what I am doing..

If someone can help with some advice that would be great.

Thanks

Jeff

Are they fibrous, i.e. do they look like there are "strands" radiating out from a central body? If so then they appear to be a harmless syconoid sponge. Reduce your nutrient levels and they should go away. If that's what they are, hard to tell from photo, they will have a tuft pointing out at the end.

tripdad thanks.. when you say nutrient levels do you mean phosphate ?Sorry kinda new at this still

Looks like some kind of acropora. The thingy's look like pineapple sponges. I haven't had many so I don't know if they are good or bad, but you can probably google them to get more information.

Not just one item, it's all the stuff from your feeding, fish, additives that are not being used up. I personally had these, if that's what they are as again photo's are not super clear, because of too much food that wasn't getting cleaned up out of the rock due to too little flow. Are there other signs in the tank? Algae, diatoms, etc. What are your test results for nitrates,p04,and so on. Almost everything that pops up is a symptom of something not the cause. Of course there are exceptions but the fact that you started looking for an explanation because of something you saw that was new is a good first step. You can Google syconoid sponges, there are lots of good photo's of them online and see if that matches up.I just removed manually and cleaned up rocks and added flow.
