SPS dominate question

Hey everyone,

I will be moving to austin in the next few months and this summer has been pretty slow, just work and staring at my tank.

With a pretty big move for me and this being the first time transporting any of my tank stuff I have decided that i am selling all my coral/LR before I make the move back to Austin. With that being said this gives me the chance to change up some stuff. I would like to have an sps dominate tank with a few LPS/zoos.

I am looking for any input.

This is the plan,

Bringing my pair of clowns, tank & equip., sand, and water.

My setup will be:
BH1000 reef octopus HOB protein skimmer (rated up to 90g) with a TLF reactor with biopellets running into my protein skimmer. I will be adding an MP10w for flow.

This will be on my 20g (unless i can find a good deal on a bigger tank w/ stand).

Wanting to do a minimal rockscape as well.

As far as fish/inverts, i will be keeping my clown pair and then adding something else. Im thinking a watchman goby. i will also add a small cuc.

Lighting: I have an AI sol blue. Think Im good there lol

Anything I need to consider or change?

Might want to consider not getting the mp10 if your getting a tank bigger then 40 gallons since a mp40 would be better suited and thickness wont be a problem for future tanks down the road. Just some food for thought.
 
Welcome back. I lived in Big Sandy for a while and Gilmer for about 4 years. I would be looking for a bigger tank. Look or ARC or Maast for used tanks, they are there all the time. A 58 or 75 would work with the equipment you have. Don't worry too much about the move and the livestock, I transported mine from St Louis to Austin but had the luxury of having the tank set up and running in Austin a few months before I did the SPS move.

I have been thinking about this alot too. I have been considering moving up to a 40g or something along those lines. Im currently not running a sump and wonder if I would be able to be successful without one on a bigger tank?

lol, small world. When I tell people Im from Big Sandy I usually get the "where the hell is that" stare.
 
I am a Lumber Person and have lived all over the country. NE Texas is a great place but was originally from Austin area and had to come back home to retire. I still have a lot of friends from that area.

You can go sumpless but it is more of a pain with equipment. A nice used setup is easy to get and the added water volume of a bigger tank is nice to have. Unless the budget is extremely tight, I wouldn't go for less than a 58 or 75 gallon tank.

you can always sell the Mp10 for 70-80% of its original value and then buy a mp40 if in years to come.

Thats cool. My dad actually works for a company in Big Sandy that provided software for lumber yards all over the world. The name of the company is/was Advantage Computer Systems (company has since had a name change).

I am starting to think i need to add a sump to help with maintence and hiding misc equip like reactors or dosing pumps.
 
I have used their software several times in the past. I was Sales manager for Dean and Guthrie Lumber. No love here for Greg but enjoyed Scott immensely.

The decision of MP10 or 40 is a personal one, depending on the tank, the 40 is a better bargain in the long run.

LOL, Scott Stanford is my dad. I worked out there for Greg doing yard maintence during the summers when I was 13-15 yrs old. I have known Greg and his family most of my life.

Yeah, my dad loves this hobby (extreme sarcasm). So convincing him I need a $475 pump may be difficult..
 
wow didnt think i would see someone on here from big sandy. i grew up not far from there by segno on holly grove road. still have our deer lease up there and family.
 
o yea also i would go with the mp40. like others say you cant turn up an mp10 as you can turn down the mp40 in case of future upgrades

lol, thats awesome! Where is the lease? We have some land here, not much hunting tho. Our lease was in south texas, but the owner has decided to sell so no more 8 hour trips to the lease..
