SPS Dominated 47G Reef

Alright...since I am in a posting photos mode...I might as well post some more. After this I wont be posting any more until the brown ones colour up. Some of these photos are a bit grainy because I accidently switched the ISO up too much and now have lots of NOISE in the photos. Cant be bothered to go back and take the shots again

First up is my Blue/Green Maxima Clam. I got this VERY small. From top down it looks blue with a hint of green. From front view of tank it looks blue:

BLUE POLYPS!!! This is one of the turds...look at all that BROWN!:angryfire: But recently I threatened to chuck it out the tank...and look...its now got these blue see-through polyps:

I am hoping this piece colours up like my Hot Pink Millepora. This piece has blue tips with wine red base. Its a wild piece and has been BROWN for nearly a year. Kind of slow growing too. Polyps are a light teal colour:

This one I posted on the first page. Excuse the glare from the bare bottom.
Its got these lovely blue tips, but the main body is still brown:

And lastly, this one I also posted on the first page under the previous lighting. Under the new lighting it lost a lot of the green in the body, but the blue tips have intensified in colour...actually, the deeper colour might be due to the increased feeding...not 100%. It sits directly underneath my Rose Millepora and the Hot Pink Millopora. Its growing on a ledge and has started to table. The blue tips are a lot more Royal Blue, but my camera never picks up any purple tones...:

Mother of science, Sahin! These colors are amazing! Making me more and more anxious to try out T5. Great job buddy.

Shhheshh I need to have "brown turds" like u lol

Corals look great...maybe in a few months everything's settles down and you get the colors that you are wanting. Keep it up

You know i always suspect mates are up to sneaky sh*t when they go all quiet Sahin..........

Not much to report on my tank mate. The SPS feeding is going well. I got my bro to take some photos of the corals with his Canon Pro lens...and even a video. So there will be an FTS and video together very soon. :crazy1:

Just waiting on my bro to stop being lazy and get with uploading the stuff on the net. :worried:

The worst brown turd of all the acros I have is a frag of a wild A. hoeksemai which so far has refused to colour up.

Space is a premium in my tank and because its only a frag, and had encrusted pretty solid onto the rock...I still wasnt going to give up on taking your advice and bleaching this acros butt with lots of light. :smokin:

So...I lowered my ATI unit until this piece was receiving 420+ PAR...I sunburnt his butt and he lightened up a little. I then proceeded to feed the tank lots for the next few days...and took lights back to original position...

Guess what happened next...the butt burning worked! The Hoek's corallite edges have started to turn blue!!! :eek2:

Now its only a TINY part of the coral, but, I think within the next couple of months more of it should colour up - as long as nothing crazy happens and I keep up with the feeding and water changes/export etc.

Now I dont recommend this this for anyone...unless you really know what you are doing, have experience with bleached corals and own or have access to a PAR meter.

About time..lol

I'm really glad you gave the express zoa detox treatment a go mate, as i said it does speed things up when carried out carefully under an experienced watchful eye ;)
As you rightly pointed out it isn't something to do unless you're confident of the acros health beforehand and know exactly what you're looking at happening to the acro. It can and does save you a lot of waiting time in most cases but it won't produce results if everything else isn't in the right zone for colors.
FTS coming and a video hey, i know you and i know that means you feel a lot better about the direction you're taking now than you did months ago so feel free to p*ss us off with more stunning pics and colors mate

wow sahin, what a great thread filled with amazing shots and good info…got here late but…… just in time for the FTS!!!! right?? :)
great tank.. really looking forward to the fts..
and btw, that yellow polyped, blue tipped tenuis looks a lot like an orange passion… thought it was when i first saw it..

Haha, I doubt my tank will ever be as nice as yours so I doubt I'll be annoying you with great colours. :uzi:

Bullsh*t mate, all of us including reef pervert Bello are going to have cool displays by the end of this year, i'll pester you all until your colors start to p*ss me off :p
Matt is right, keep the details and pics flowing mate as watching fellow SPS keepers achieve success is always great info for new reefers to follow. Can you just refer to that bloody tenuis as your orange passion from now on please Sahin, now it's worth heaps of money i'd sell it off if i was you so you don't have any just like someone in Aus i know............:hammer:

I want to see your sump too - full disclosure is required to make sure you're not running any NASA equipment still........:p

+1.

And sump pics are also wanted!

Is this your actual brother that you are referring to as "bro"? Or is it just a friend that is your "bro"? Either way, tell him to get with it!

+1.... Give me your bro phone # :uzi::uzi::uzi:

Hi Sahin, looks like you are in the wanted list!!! This is what happen to a successful reefer. Ha, ha.

 I shouldnt have said a word...

Yes, he is an actual brother...which means he will take his silly time...believe me it took me ages asking him to come record a video of the tank...I just asked him a few hours ago the tank video...his reply was "yeah, I should be done soon..." :debi:

Here, sahin..
This is my true orange passion from reef raft..
As you can see, it's lost a bit of its...passion. Hopefully with a little tlc, it'll get it back..

iPhone pic..
Here it is against a classic blue tenuis..

This sure looks a lot like what you have.
But you know how it is with these named corals... Lineage is everything..
You could yours lime passion...

Yup! Many thanks for your post. In fact, when I got this coral, it SURE looked like the RR version, complete with ORANGE polyps...and I can tell you the colours are INTENSE on this one. I think due to my lights being heavy on the Blue side, the polyps look greeny yellow, but if I replaced the Coral+ with an AquablueSpecial, I am sure it would look a lot more like the RR Orange Passion.

I shall call him: Kangaroo Passion, in recognition and praise due to my mate Biggles whose advice has helped me keep this piece coloured up...in fact it truly is one of my better coloured pieces. :fun2:
