This is the out door reef that is lit by natural sunlight and powered by a humungous one story surge tank. When I saw this tank outside I nearly had a heart attack. More pics to come!

This is one of the last tanks that I saw that was more like a tide pool tank. Very shallow and all that was thriving for corals were montis. It was more of a fish feeding/petting part of the place. Of course you could not pet the fish, but they had a stop for kids to play with hermits and sea urchins.

Sorry for all the pics. It was a journey from the hotel room. For some odd reason I forgot my digital camera with my lady. Some how I hunted her down on the beached and dragged her in there to see these amazing tanks. She enjoyed the tide pool tank very much. As she was taking the snaps of the fish she just was so amazed saying, "WOW the fish think its Hollywood..." I just replied no sweets they think you have food. Haha
Oh well, I just wanted to share the experience that I had that day. I know many of you would not get the chance to see this beautiful aquarium so I hope you enjoyed the pics.
Happy reefing and please enjoy!

These were in another tank got to love the blue squomosa!

I want to go there SO bad! I'm hoping to plan a vacation in the next couple of years. I'm sure it would be worth the money!

That was awesome, thank you for sharing. I don't fly so I am one of those that won't ever get to see it up close. And yes, nothing compares to NSW and the Sun. Those Acro colonies are massive.
Thanks again.
Matt

My sister lives minutes from there and has never visited it. Crazy.... I keep telling her she has to go! I plan on visiting her in december and will check it out then. That is incredible! I remember a few years back someone stealing some of the clams from their outdoor clam tank.

Delbeek left behind a legacy there, hopefully he is doing great things in San Fran.

I have been there - as great as those pics are, seeing it in person is amazing. I was there three years ago on my honeymoon. I think it is significantly better than any around here.

Someone working there told me the aquariums inside are hooked up/plumbed to the ocean so that a water change is as simple as turning a valve. When you look through those window pane viewers, the tanks are actualy several inches taller than what we can see so that when they do a water change, we don't see the water leaving. Somehow it's plumbed back into the tanks using the natural water as well. I don't know how legit this story is, but that's what they told me.
