ok i have just setup a 30g tank (1 week ago) to house my corals as i had to take down my tank to build a new and bigger one. I have many corals including LPS, zoas, leathers and SPS.
everything is doing fine exept the sps I have lost all my peices ( only a few) they are just not opening up and within a day they lost there skin and were white as a ghost. I have not checked the water parameters yet but i will tonight.
I did use new water is this helps.

Any indications as to what has happened?

What else is in the tank?? Any LR, fish, Filtration, powerheads, ect?
i have a bit of live rock ( 10lbs) no fish, AC 300 filter and a few powerheads.

The unstable water conditions in the 1 week old 30 gallon tank could be the problem.

I would also suspect that if you have the Leathers in the same 30 gallon holding tank along side the SPS, there could be some toxicity issues. Running carbon may have helped if that was the case.

I think this is the cause, you should of used the water from your tank that the SPS were in. Because the water in your 30 gallon was new the chemistry was not the same as your established tank.

well I have not been able to get to a good LFS to do a good water test. But i do have a nitrate test kit and I tested it today.

found the problem its at 1.6 mg/L .....WOW I do not know how it could get to be so high. And I have no idea why i did not test for this sooner. I just did a 40% water change and am waiting for the RO to fill up the tub to make more salt.

Is it safe to do another 40- 50% water change within 24hr?
