SPS experts, need some clarification....

Thanks. Checked my Alk and Phos yesterday. Alk was 8.2 and Phos was 18ppb=0.05. I may increase the amount of RowaPhos I added. I'll check in a few days again just to be sure. How quickly will GFO or similar bring down the phos? Its only been in the tank for a couple of days and I added very little.

Also picked up a used MP10 because I couldn't resist, LOL! I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks so I don't want to put it in the tank yet. I put it in my QT tank just to try it out and I almost pushed Dory out of the water, LOL! Those pumps are powerful, and the wave action was ridiculous. I'm actually kind of scared to put it in my nano because I'm worried that all those LPS stingers are going to have way to much assistance to sting their neighbors. It would be nice to remove those 2 Koralias though:D

LOL, I figure if I ever need more flow in my upgrade, a little peewee Vortech may help;) I heard they are hit and miss on 1/2" glass. Can't wait to get those 40s up, holy crap that's a lot of flow :D The flow is SOOOO wide. No comparison with that puny Koralia 425 I have now.
 
ur not kidding I bought 2 40's and on my 150 they are strong. By mistake I set it to tidal and let's just say I almost had dining room pool lol
 
I'm running a MP-10 on a 180. Had it sitting in a box after I took down my 57, thought I'd give it a try. Works great.

Sorry to break it to you but after checking your pictures again tonight I noticed that you have red bugs that show clearly on the last acro on the pictures (the project acro) you need to treat your tank for red bugs before it get bad.
 
Thanks Rogger. I suspected that the other day and you are abosulutely correct. I was wondering what was going on with the polyp extension, because the base is growing. I confirmed them while I was taking some pics with my camera. You can see them, but they are easy to miss with the naked eye. I am not going to bomb my tank for one small no name acro frag, nor set up a quarantine/HT for this frag, so I will probably ditch it. Based on my readings, it seems that red bugs are pretty exclusive to acros, so it shouldn't affect other corals. I have not seen any on the other corals as well. Its kind of frustrating because its my only acro, but at the same time, its not a big deal. I did dip it in coral Rx, as I so all other corals, but I've read the coral dips are hit and miss with these bugs. That said, what do you do to prevent these parasites from entering your system? Quarantine? Dip with Interceptor? How do you dip with Interceptor? Most of my reading turns up 3 tank treatments spread out over a week.

For those of you that have not seen Red Bugs....this is what they look like on my acro,.....oooo, I feel like a shameful, dirty $LUT LOL!

On a positive note, the Ponape is at least double the size as when I got it. Something must be working :D
 
Interceptor is a relatively painless treatment. It will truly only affect your inverts. Last time i did it i lost some snails and hermits, not all but some. My most expensive loss was i believe a cleaner shrimp. Your lucky its red bugs and not one of the other hellacious parasites like AEFW, monti eating nudis, or zoa eating nudis. Atleast red red bugs can be treated in tank pretty efficiently with minimal losses.
 
Yeah, but I rather not go that route for just this frag. If it was several frags or even a colony, I would totally do it. I figure if I remove the frag, it will take care of itsefl. I thought I read that after a week without a host, the red bugs are dead bugs. As it is, I don't plan on buying any more acros until my big tank stabilizes, which might be around Christmas time, LOL! On a more positive note, I'm picking my tank up today. Second coat of stain is on the stand, and ordering all the plumbing this weekend. I smell a build thread coming soon ;)

In the mean time, I'll keep myself entertained with some garbage Zoos from El Porko to keep my coral fix going, LOL! Thanks guys. Feel free to spew some info on the red bugs, and where I can get some interceptor for future use. I have 2 Golden Retrievers so I have an excellent excuse to get some, LOL!
 
Rovi are redbugs flatworms?? Cuz I think I got'em too now.. Every morning when I wake up they are all on my front glass.. I also don't want to Nike the tank.. Good thing I don't have any acros. But... Crap..

No redbugs are not flatworms. And if you see flat worms on your glass your most likely experiencing the harmless planaria version. I dealt with them once. They come and go. If they get really bad though like their numbers explode they might cover up some corals and block light. You can use flat worm exit for that but be careful. I bought a 6 line when i had that issue and they went awya pretty quickly. I heard other wrasse like twin spots work too.
 
Okay cool, because I look closely at my corals every day and never seen them on any corals, just on the front glass.. Doesn't seem like its bothering anything.. Polyp extension is good also..

Btw rovi that monti and pocci u gave me have taken off, I'd say prob like 25-30% growth since u Hooked me up thanks man.
 
Redbugs are copepods. The flatworms you see on the glass are usually not a big deal. Its the AEFWs that people fear, at least people with acros. I think these parasites are pretty exclusive to acropora, so if you don't have acros, you don't have these. From what I've read, redbugs are more of an irritant than anything, and may not necessarily kill a coral, but they are a nuissance. That's why I plan on ditching this acro at some point. For now, we'll keep it as a science experiment.

Cool, I'm glad. I was wondering if they were still around;) That monti and pocci can sure take a ton of light :) I love seeing progress. Post some pics when you get a chance! I'm curious to see if the color changes in others tanks. I know that pocci when I first got it was brown as brown can be, and it turned a corally color, and I'm sure if you have some good lighting, it might even get better coloration.

ya man the pocci is like a blue green color, i love the way it looks and cant wait til it gets a 1/4 the size of your piece.. I got it under 250w 20K's HQI's.
