SPS experts, need some clarification....

Redbugs are copepods. The flatworms you see on the glass are usually not a big deal. Its the AEFWs that people fear, at least people with acros. I think these parasites are pretty exclusive to acropora, so if you don't have acros, you don't have these. From what I've read, redbugs are more of an irritant than anything, and may not necessarily kill a coral, but they are a nuissance. That's why I plan on ditching this acro at some point. For now, we'll keep it as a science experiment.

If its just that one, then try and just do a dip atleast, maybe you can get rid of the bugs if they are isolated to that one frag. Consider it a "project" lol. There are some pretty good results using bayer insecticidal spray i think if you search the boards a bit. I was going to try it but i dont have red bugs right now. (fingers crossed) knock on wood. :hammer:

careful with the pocci. When it gets comfy and big enough it will spawn. Youll have little colonies of pocci around your tank. I was excited when that happened at first too, then not so much, lol. When they start popping up everywhere, even on you powerheads you start looking at them more like GSP or xenia, hahah

ya I can see how you would feel like that, but right now coral spawning in my tank is welcome all across the board. I'd rather have an exponential coral growth problem, than just about any other coral hiccup hehehe

lol, ok. But in 6 months to a year when you post a thread about how to get rid of poccillipora frags im going to point you to this thread. LOLOL :lol2:

Wow, Kayo, those have definitely grown. That pocci looks amazing in your tank. Dude, be patient, I'm sure it will be huge in no time. In 2-3 months, you will see it start to really take off. It looks very comfy. I like the growth pattern as well. Mine is limeted by the air above the water in my tank, LOL. Mine has a perfectly flat top, HAHA! That monti definitely has grown as well, it looks like its starting to encrust. Awesome!

Concerning the pocci "droppings", I think I have a couple in my tank, but I don't know if its spawning, or the aftermath of eit being shattered several times in my tank;) I'm with Kayo, it it wants to spawn, let it. It will be easier to control than xenia or GSP. After all, it is a stony. They grow fast, but not that fast :)

I was thinking of that. I was going to mix a super concentrated mix of the Coral Rx and tip and blast the corals with a turkey baster several times. It seems that the Dips may not kill the bugs, but may stun them enough to blow them off the piece. Should be easier since mine is an infant, LOL! I will keep you updated, as this is my SPS experiment thread. Stay tuned for updates.

And why can't 2PM come any sooner! I have an appointment to pick up my tank!!!!!!:headwally::headwally::headwally::celeb1::celeb1::celeb1:

Try bayer insecticide for the red bugs. I have some if you want to try it. Just bring a small container for it. It's $15 for a large bottle. The red bug will either fall off or freeze in place. Only down side I've seen with it is the stuff looks like milk. So it's hard to see thru it.

Thanks Marvin. I'll do a search for it, and see if I can pick some up. More stuff to add to my "experiment", LOL! I will report back with results. Any tips on how to use it?

I would make sure you rinse the coral good in clean SW. I've read where someone had a massive pod dye off when they stuck their fingers in the tank water. They think they had some of the chemical on their fingers. That's about the only negative post I've seen when I was researching the use of it.

Took a close look, definitely much better, but still may be a few bugs on there. I'll probably repeat the dip tomorrow, maybe use a stronger mix. A lot definitely came off the frag. Thanks Marv for pointing me in that direction. I had no idea. I'll keep you guys posted!

EWWW!!!!! and you came over probably had bugs on you!!!

Yeah, I'm just nasty:wave:

Dips went well. Polyps still retracted, but I don't see any cucarachas:bounce2:

Thanks for the tour of your tank El Porko. You have some sick $hit, and by sick I really mean..........:eek1:

Just a quick update. It's been a few days since the Bayer dip. Thanks Marv for recommending that. No signs of bugs, and today when I got home, polyps were more extended than they've been in a while. I'm optimistic this mightnwork. I might re-dip in a couple of weeks. We'll see.

That's good news. I will be surprised if you find more bugs after the initial dip. But let us know. What ratio of water to bayer did you use?
