As important as light is for sps. IMHO flow is as important for sps. I run 2 koralia 1400s in my 57g. They rotate on and off every 10sec. Seems to do the trick. My polyps stay out night and day. Actually I swear my pink stylo looks better at night, more pink and less purple.

As long as the flow is not directly on the sps, I would not be worried about to much flow.

Brian, thanks you actually just saved me from making an ID post because I had no idea what sort of acro that was! It's polyps are out like that all the time, I'm assuming this means it's in a happy spot in my tank?

THEDLO, thanks, that video is perfect, exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.

shananagans, this is what I gathered from my reading as well about the importance of flow. It does seem many people concentrate on light a lot, when light seems a bit easy compared to getting the right flow. This is just my opinion as an SPS newb though.


I've messed around with my flow a bit, and think I've got some decent flow on my SPS now. Thanks for all the help everyone.

i have it so the flow is going all over the place, meaning that i make my power heads and returns appose each other so that the current is rather random. in my tank im running 2 karalia 4s, a 3, and 1, also in the center i have a polario that does 5500 gph, and as my return i run 2 mag 9.5s. this creates an amazing current that is always shifting which makes for cool movement by my fish and coral

Do you have any LPS in there as well. I run a single mp40 on reefcrest at about 80% and it swirls lol

I run 4 magnum 8's in my 210g two on each h end on random timers sotbere is always one end pair of pumps running and sometimes all 4. Works pretty well butcould use even more flow.
