sps frags on gigas ?

When I receive my 10" tridacna gigas, would it be a problem for the clam if I attached a few small sps frags to its shell? I've seen pictures of sponges and various organisms living on gigas clams, but wasn't sure if they would appreciate sps or not. Of course the frags wouldn't be near the mantle, and once a colony they would always be fraged when they grew too big.

Hey Vader:
This would be for appearance only and would be no benefit to the clam. as long as it didn't interfere with the opening and closing of the Clam it would'know it was on there. My Gigas is pretty active so it might knock them off. One downside is that it might make it more difficult to inspect the clam for snails or other parasites. When my clam came in a scrubbed everything off the shell I could. It looks like you have one on order, congrats dude, ,make sure to post a pic when it comes in. Good luck, Mike

Make sure not Monti or Acro....due to the paracites...if you ever need to treat, might be a pain....also make sure does not grow to close to foot or edge....might impeed the clam....just my thoughts,

yea, that wouls look cool, but wouldnt the weight of the frags (once they got bigger) make it harder for the clam to open/close? and yea, paracites... BIG problem with clams i hear....

I wouldn't be using any new frags, just frags of my current colonies. I doubt it would be any problem for the clam to open/close since they're pretty strong. I thought of the idea after seeing some pictures of gigas clams with their shells covered with marinelife.

i would stick with encrusting types of corals if you want to have some glued to the shell. branching ones will get in the way in time, and could possibly if left to get to big shade out the clams mantle

I wouldnt put anything on it. If you put a excrusting sps on it wouldnt you run the risk of it growing over the whole shell and then inside? Or wouldnt you run the chance of the mantle getting stung? I dont know, i just see it being a pain later down the line.
