I accidentally placed one of my sps corals too close to the vortech under tow flow, the flow was strong enough to strip and peel the skin off 2/3 of the coral. Will it survive or is it junk now. Any help will help.
I do not believe it to be rtn. I just moved it to a different location in the tank. Only one side was ripped clean of the skin tissue where the current was the strongest. I thought it will be strong enough to withstand, I guess I'll frag what's left. Could be a goner.
SPS are just finicky. As long as you have some healthy tissues left, the coral will grow back, but sometimes they just loses more and more tissues everyday.
Not all SPS can take very strong flow. If you want to place a coral near the MP40 then you need to acclimate it to the strong flow. When I needed to place a coral near the MP40 I turned it down to 40% and then slowly over two weeks turned it back up to 100%. The coral showed no signs of stress doing it this way.
