Week 1 Thoughts

Week 1 Thoughts

Well, the tank has been running almost a week now and I thought I would add some observations and comments about how things have been going:

  • The tank runs extremely quiet, much quieter than my old tank. I'm REALLY happy about this. The only real noise is coming from the overflow at the top because of a water drop of about 7". Someday soon I'm going to remove the piping from inside the overflow (friction slip fitted...so easy to do) and raise everything up a few inches to reduce the drop and hopefully the noise. But as is I really can't complain.
  • Temps have been great. I have the heater set to turn on at 77. With a full light cycle and no fans running I've only seen the tank get over 79 for about a half hour during the late afternoon. This is great considering its summer and around 103 outside. Tank runs MUCH cooler than my last one.
  • Best thing I did on this tank this time was to install a flourescent light above the sump in the bottom cabinet. This has made tank maintenance/inspection MUCH easier (I had NO light down there before).
  • I've got the sump ATO fully automated at this point and find it keeps the water level even more consistent than the LiterMeterIII I used before (at least the way I was using it). With my current programming my ATO dosing pump comes on about every hour to hour and a half and pumps for about 10 minutes (50ml/minute ~ 2 cups per cycle).
  • I really like the thought that if something goes foobar on the tank there's a really good chance I'll get a txt message about it on my phone before my wife finds out.

Yeah really, whats so important to keep us all hangin for so long? Hope all is well. Excellent build and setup. As to the scape I like the original layout much better than the subsequent attempts...has a better feel to it. The last one looks a little manufactured. Just a nitpick as its still fantastic!

The OP hasnt logged on since the start of Feb. Hope all is well and that there will be an update soon. :)
