SPS Interaction?

I'm wondering if people know which SPS corals do NOT get along? I've had SPSs that have touched each other and either killed a spot or the entire coral colony died. The latter happened to me when a M. Digitata branch broke and fell on my gorgeous blue tort Acropora and killed a portion of it and it spread. I actually fragged off all of the tort's branches and not a single frag survived.

Everything will sting or kill another. Survival of the fittest. With frags it can be a big deal larger colonies not so much. There is a newer thread in this forum about SPS forest check that out. It will show you what can happen when large colonies meet.

Many of my acroporas grow right up to and touch each other and they don't kill each other. They may create a small dead point but nothing like what happened to my tort which was necrotic and once it started to die back it wouldn't stop and the whole colony died. I even tried to cut off the dead areas and dipped it in iodine and it didn't matter it still died.

Seems blue torts are sensitive. I had a large colony last year, branches a foot long, and for some reason, one day it decided to start receding. I trimmed and trimmed and even cut off tips and branches that were fully perfect in order to try and save some frags. In the end, no matter where I put them in the tank, they all died. It was the only coral in the whole tank that died out of the blue (no pun intended). Still don't know what happened to this day. All my other corals were fine and continued to be so.
