I recently just had an ice fire echinata frag rtn and I originally chalked that up to an isolated temperature spike from78.0 to 82.5; however, since then I've noticed a couple other pieces with some signs of unhappiness. I have a blue millepora that has some stn occuring at the base, and two other pieces with minor cases of stn. I have checked my parameters and they are as follows:
"¢ Calcium: 450 (red sea pro)
"¢ Alkalinity: 9.6 (Salifert) (was 8.3 last week so it has gone up. I have slowed down the dosing pump)
"¢ pH: 8.4 (probe)
"¢ Temperature: 78.0 (probe)
"¢ PO4: 0.00 (Salifert) (Tested last week)
"¢ NO3: 0.02 (Salifert) (Tested last week)
"¢ Magnesium: 1300 (Tested last week)
For flow I run an Ecotech MP10wES on reef crest. My display lighting is an OR - T247 with both channels running at 25% (I found my sps to be bleaching at higher intensities). I do a 5 gallon water change bi-weekly and clean the filter socks weekly. I feed on the heavy side since my nutrients are always low. There is an automatic feeder feeding twice a day and I feed a combination of various frozen foods, including my homemade blend, 2-3 times a day.
Lately I've noticed more stn issues on sps frags in my frag tank, which is pled into the DT, but it is occuring among frags all from the same coral so I have considered it to be an isolated issue, not a sps wide issue.
I'm somewhat at a loss right now. I don't see any major issues with my system that would be causing these problems. Mag is a little low but I dose that to bring it up its just not automatically dosed with dosers.
