SPS Keepers, What's your alk at?

i got a korallin reactor and just set it up. the alk has been 14 in the tank for the past week, how should i lower it? tropic marin makes this alk reducer, should i try that?

I would let it lower by itself. If you have your reactor running, try dialing it back some.

stop using reactor, the Kalk will go down by itself about 1-2wks, supplement the CA on the side.

add suplement! Ca reactors only sustain they dont increase.

Not true. I think what he means is that because Ca Reactors give a balanced addition of Ca and Alk, if one is too high or too low, you can't fix this problem with a reactor. You will have to either add a supplement to get your low level up, or if you are high in one turn your reactor off and just add a maintenance dose of the other one until your tank uses up the excess of whatever you have. Make sense?

If your Ca and Alk are in balance, however, but both below what you want, you CAN increase the levels of both. Either increase the amount of CO2 or the effluent rate, or both. Best advice I can give is that you just have to fiddle with it, but slowly. Make small adjustments, test, wait, test again, wait, test again, make another adjustment, etc. . . . Keep an especially close watch on any PH shifts.
