SPS keepers, who's using Schuran Jetstream?

I've heard you must use a PH controller with this.

Anyone using one without a controller?

My current reactor is down and I'm considering a change. I have a 6" x 18" dual, reverse flow now with ReefFanatic regulator and have never needed a controller.

Thanks in advance,

Todd

I don't use a controller. As a mater of fact, I don't check the pH of the reactor at all. My pH meter is in the sump monitoring the system pH.

Most reefkeepers I've met with a reactor eventually remove it from monitoring their effluent after their reactor has been steady for a while.

And you definately don't need a controller to run any calcium reactor. If anything, I think that they encourage folks to "set and forget" with disregard to properly dialing in the reactor. A properly-tuned reactor will provide more stability than a reactor that is cycling on and off all day long. I think their proper use would be as a safeguard, and that alone.

I would venture a guess that most problems with dialing in a reactor come from an inconsistant feed... The jetstream is fussy with it's feed (being at the bottom of the reactor, with the volume of water creating backpressure on the feed input) To the point that many users have started using peristaltic pumps. Myself included.

Thanks Rob, that's a consideration as it would add quite a bit to the cost needing the peristaltic too.

I agree with you on the operation of reactors 24/7, I'd just heard this one particular brand needing a controller...didn't make sense to me.

Any others?
