SPS losing color...please comment

Mult SPS in my tank which are small colonies and frags have been going through a slow lighting of their colors with the best example beeing a green birds nest. All still have color it has just been slowly fading. Ca 480, mg 1280, alk 7-8. The alk has slowly come down over the last 2 months from 9-10 to get it closer to NSW as plan to start zeo in the next couple of months. Tank is on a contiuous water change of 2 gallons a day adding up to 20-22% water change a month. Temp stable between 76-79 degrees. My lighting is 7 AI sol blue which I slowly incresed to around 80% Royal blue, 80% blue and 50% white from 10AM to 6PM. From 12PM to 4PM the lights ramp up and then down so they are at 80%RB, 80%B, 80%W for 3 hours. I did this based on PAR readings and what PAR I thought the SPS was getting before they went into my tank. I feel the color change is most likely due to my light intensity being to high and have since (3 days ago) changed the settings to: 70% Royal blue, 70% blue and 35% white from 10AM to 6PM. From 12PM to 4PM the lights ramp up and then down so they are at 70%RB, 70%B, 60%W for 3 hours.
Would you all do anything differently with the lights. and how long would you expect it to takje for the colors to improve if too much light was the culprit. Just to be clear this is not a quick bleaching/STN/RTN event just a gradual loss of color intesity over weeks.

Lighting was definitely part of the problem, could take about a month to color back up.

Another cause could be lack of nutrients for your sps. You could try feeding your tank more.

Why are you wanting to start zeo?

I would focus on getting your sps colored back up before you consider zeo, you could end up starving them to death.

Agreed, I am still considering zeo in the next couple of months and will not start until the corals look to be back to baseline. I just removed all the fish from that tank and will go fishless for several months. I am working toward ULNS and have just started feeding the corals specifically. Right now I am using coral frenzy and plan to feed twice a week. Have I backed off the lights enough and/or would you change the photoperiod? Right now I am planning on the feeding regimen above and sitting tight for a month and observing but I would like any input.

I would simply bring down the percentages a bit.

Is there a particular reason you are going for an ULNS? Removing all of your fish seems a bit extreme.

A bit extreme...agreed. I got the tank in Nov. for free from a friend who was running fresh water for several years and then switched to FOWLER. The upkeep was done by a LFS and it was not pretty. I got the tank, stand, VHO's, wet-dry sump, skimmer rock and fish. Fought high phos for 3-4 months leeching from the rock, got the bioballs out, built a fishroom behind the wall, water changing station etc. I never really liked the choice of fish and some were questionably reef safe. I have some aptasia and peppermint shimp when intoduced would just become food. Also if he got livestock from this fish store there was difinately ick in the tank. Over the weekend I placed some new rock and reaquascaped and added a substrate (was running bare bottom). I got rid of the fish at the same time and will run fallow for a few months and then add exactly the fish I want after QT/treatment. I want to try zeo to have more control over the nutrients in the tank but I am still researching it and could go another direction. All parameters are within acceptable limits and fairly stable

That makes sense, trying to get a fresh start and all. Ya definitely make sure to feed your tank enough to help you corals survive.
