SPS needs

Do SPS need a alternating flow of current? I have a Staghorn that is supposed to have Blue poylps/tan brown base. It is growing an the polyps are looking small and more green. I was told by an LFS that it need alternating current and to get a wave maker? True? not true?

Rest of the tank is looking fine including tri-color and a digi I have.
