SPS recommendations

I need some sps advice. I want something hardy, that is NOT green or pale pink (I have plenty of that already).

Red, orange, purple, are all okay.

Fast growing is great, but not mandatory. I can wait.

What do you guys recommend?

Orange Montipora Digitata or Orange Montipora Capricornis
Purple Montipora Capricornis
Red, Hmmm I will have to think about this one and get back to you.

WellScott, I might be wrong about this because I'm not a reefer but some coral will change color in different peoples tanks, under different spectrums of light/kalk as opposed to calcium reactors? Is the color changes not that variable in mille's or am I just completely off base here ( I just thought I had read that somewhere)? I only suggested mille's because I love to look at them. To me they are a good SPS which still flows.

I do not know your setup so well but in general I would recommend steering clear of them.

The best my tank ever looked was when the top was loaded with Acro and montipora colonies. The most work I had to put into it was at this same time.

Gradually I found myself doing the kalk reactor, the dual tunze, the oversized ASM, upped the lighting, added the OM device on a closed loop, on line SPS purchases, more money, mo money, etc.
Found myself with my hand in a test kit or in the tank all of the time, battling alk levels, afraid to miss a scheduled water change, not understanding why a colony would turn white virtually overnight.

It all started with me posting a thread, asking what SPS someone would recommend.

It is hard to keep from getting the SPS bug once you introduce them. The CA, especially alkalinity and PH levels become a constant concern for you, as does water quality.

Biggest mistake I ever made but that was me, if you have the time and can keep it smaller, they look great.

If choosing 1, I would do an orange montipora plating type.
Good luck.

I would suggest trying montiporas out first and see how you do with them. Then go into acros if you like them. Orange and purple Caps grow pretty fast.

I have an Orange cap that grows quiet nice. It is almost a pink in my tank but not a pale pink by any stretch. I have seen a vivid red cap being sold at a LFS that was impressive.

Seems like the Red Planet varies a lot from tank to tank in color. Is it the green the differs? I cannot recall but I think the base is supposed to be a green but it goes away in most tanks... but I'm not sure of that.

Bali-Tri color is supposed to be a quick growing purple SPS.

I had an ORA Rose Millie for a short time. It was a dark rose color, very pretty, but it was one of the few corals I have lost. It happened during a water change, lesson has been learned.

I have an orange cap I got off Phil that is growing quickly under t5s for about 7 months now so i'm sure you could get it to thrive.
