SPS skin peeling off

I just bought 6 nice acros pieces last week. They are all fine except for one, a beautiful yellow tort. It's skin is peeling from the base a little more every day. What can I do to stop it if any?

Thanks

sounds like stn........frag up a little into the good flesh and save what you can....look at it in a positive, in 6 months to a year you'll hopefully have 4,5,6 yellow torts :)

any pics?

you can also try covering the dying areas with superglue. Cover the whole area that's effected and a bit onto the healthy flesh. Alot of times this will stop the stn.

could be alot of things maybe it is in too much flow or more light than it was used to.... maybe it was some form of predator who knows.... fragging is an option but so is seeing if it re-covers itself...

Do you use the gel superglue or regular. Do you dry off the affected area before applying the superglue, and how long do you let the glue dry before putting the coral back in the tank?

Thanks

Could also be acro-eating flatworms...

I haven't seen any flotworms in my aquarium, I don't believe that to be the problem. Thanks for pointing that out though :)

1/3 is now gone. I'll wait till the lights come on today to see how it is doing. If it is still peeling, I'll frag it. Do I use crazy glue to mount the pieces onto the rock. I've never fragged before.

Thanks everyone :)

Ill tell you first hand, its not gonna stop. I have done the same thing with so many b/c you just want to wait one more day to see if it will stat to recover. Just go ahead and frag it. I know it sucks, but everyday you wait your loosing months of growth. I have tried the super glue method before and it works sometimes but fragging is the sure bet. 9x out of 10 you will save some of the coral by fragging. Just, my 2 cents, good luck!

Thats not intirely true. I have had at least 2 pieces stop STN completely and regrow all the tissue.

It doesn't sound like it is slowing down though, I would go ahead and frag it off.

I just inspected it with lights out, and I noticed good polyp extention for the first time. Could this be a sign that it is rejuvinating? Should I wait another day to see if the receeding has ended.

Thanks again everyone

Honestly it may not stop, but in many cases it does. I've used the liquid glue and I just blow on the area to dry it good and carefully coat the entire area. Then just put it right back into the tank, or you can dunk it in a seperate container of tank water to cure the glue. It seal's the skeleton off so nothing bad can get to it.

I just fragged it into 6 pieces, 2 large ones and 4 small ones. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the advice everyone :)
