I've had an issue with high nitrates and one of my dark violet SPS corals seemed to lose its zooxanthellae. I thought it was dead, but yesterday when I blasted my rocks the coral started sliming from all the debris in the water.
Does this mean it's not dead? It sure looked dead to me although algae are not growing on it, but it's totally dark brown in color and the surface is no longer smooth, looks wrinkled. Can a dead coral still slime?
