SPS Solana

I've read on other threads that the Solana 150w MH was decent lighting for an SPS tank of this size. What was your thought on upgrading it to the Sunpod 250w MH? Are you having any temp issues?

Just looking at the success that others have had with the 250W systems on a Solana made me want to upgrade from the 150W. In addition, I planned on having a low rock structure to keep an clean and modern look to the aquarium. So the light has to travel through approximately 10 inches of air and then 10 inches of water before it reaches the corals. I was just scared the 150 W wouldn't be enough.

My temperature fluctuates between 79 at night to 84 mid day (probe is 3 inches down from the top of the tank), so i would say I have a little bit of an issue, but it is acceptable.

Here are a few more pictures...

Enjoy! I will post some updated tank shots this weekend.

Thanks Zoanut and dtf!

brunv: I use a Mag-float everyday on the glass and a Kent Pro-scraper once a week on all reachable interior surfaces.

I have one of those Kent Pro-scrapper's and its brilliant.

Also I hate to be a downer, but some of the reason that this tank looks like it has as little algae as it does it because the tank has only been set up 2 weeks. Not to say it won't continue to look like this. Although I find in even the healthiest and best maintained reefs coralline algae and other growths on the class make a tank look aged.

Just to give everyone a little background...

Here is my last tank, a 70 gallon oceanic tech tank. Everything was custom built by me, except for the tank.

Also, last summer I built a saltwater mixing station (20g RODI Freshwater/44g Saltwater)...

In addition I built a Coral QT/Frag tank and Fish QT station out of two 14 gallon biocubes...

JGROSS4, you are one sick puppy:lol:  i can see you are anal about your tanks! looks real good, clean, and well thought out! on the solana does the skimmer introduce micro bubbles into the tank? and does the tank run real quiet? if you didn't have the sun pod would you be able to hear the tank running?

Dang!!! Looks sooooo nice! Your setup and organization style reminds me of how Steve Weast did his tank setups. Very nice looking!
