SPS Solana

I can't wait to see this tank fully stocked.

How did you get Marinedepot to ship your tank? There's a tank I desperately want but they won't ship to Canada.

Looking very sweet, dude!

Nice clean setup full of high end equipment. This will be a very nice tank in a few months. ;)

Thank you very much everyone!!!

Im planning an aquascape similar to my solana, only larger, probably almost twice the size. I was toying with the idead of running two islands. A larger one near the overflow and one smaller one on the other side.

Im not sure yet though. Any thoughs?

Thanks again!

Thats sounds good. I remember seeing an aquascape similar to what you want in an elos 70 and it look pretty cool.

Thanks again everyone! and sorry MedRed.

My average cleaning regiment is as follows...

- 5 gallon water change every two weeks. I take a 1/2" hose and suck as much debris out of the tank as possible. I take special notice of the corners and under the rocks if i can reach. Sometimes swish the water around near the bottom of the rocks with hand in order to try to get debris out to suck up with the hose.

- I change my filter pad once every two weeks when I do my water change.

- Scrape all glass and backwall during the water change. I pay special attention to carefully scraping where the glass meets silicon. I've noticed if you keep these corners clean, it really gives the tank the new look many people are looking for. In addition, My back wall has a 1/8" piece of black acrylic siliconed to it. This is important because this allows me to easily scrape the algae off it. The standard rough surface of the many overflows and filters is hard to keep clean.

- Magfloat the glass clean every 3-4 days or as needed. Some noticeable algae growth can be seen between this period. However, I do not generally do not magfloat more often (unless I have company)in an effort to not disturb the corals near the glass as little as possible.

- I clean my skimmer cup once every 3-4 days. I clean my skimmer every 3-4 months.

- I clean my pumps with a scrub brush every 3-4 months.

Hope this helps.

Thank you!

I havent started a new build thread yet. I am traveling for work and I wont be home till this weekend. Hopefully I be able to start it early next week. I'll keep you posted ;)

Also, the light is a 250W and it is already spoken for. I will let you know if it falls through.

Thanks again!

Hey Everyone!!!

A few days after my last post I got a promotion and had to move to Milwaukee for two months for training. I was getting ready to transfer to my new tank the following weekend, but I'm so glad i didn't because my new Elos tank was definitely not ready to be left alone for two months. Anyway I had a co-worker take care of my Solana while I was gone and he did a great job!

As far as setting up my new Elos tank goes, I will be waiting until the second week in November because I will be moving to Orlando for my new job over the next few weeks. I can't wait to finally set it up!

Anyway, here are a few updated tanks shots! :)

First off your tank is awesome! I have your tank saved as a favorite and tried to take away as many tricks as I could.

I have a question about the filter media you use. What do you have in the overflow and in the back chamber? Did you replace the blue sponges and if so with what?

Thanks a lot and congratulations with your promotion.

Thanks guys!

As far as my filter media goes...

In the overflow I use Fluval 404/405 foam blocks and I cut them in half. They fit almost perfectly and I change them every other week.

The lower middle chamber is filled with live rock rubble and I replaced the blue foam pad with a Fluval carbon filled mesh bag. Again, I change the carbon every other week.

They both work great and I normally just get the foam and carbon from Petsmart or I order it online if I'm buying other items. Hope this helps!

Thanks!
