This tank has been a real pain! Just siphoned off a bunch tonight, been doing that every few days for a few weeks now, getting really old. No detectable nitrate or phosphate (0-2 nitrate and .02 phosphate).

I'm thinking its time to try that Blue Life cyano remover, any thoughts good or bad? I haven't bought anything yet.

Fwiw, this has probably been an ongoing issue for months not weeks. I've never dosed anything due to fear of wiping out beneficial bacteria/life, and also believing that in time it will dissipate and keeping clean parameters. Rodi is zero TDS.

Someone at the PN I hosted suggested the BlueReef Cyano Rx. Cleared my problem right up. Easy to use, seen no problems with the rest of the tank and no change in water color.

I got cyano after a blackout/dosing period to remove dinos. One shot of chemiclean got rid of it and haven't seen a trace since then.

Chemiclean worked for me as well. I did have to dose twice but it worked and hasnt come back yet.

The important thing is that the cause is fixed. Then use a red slime remover to get rid of the existing cyano. Otherwise it still just come back.

That was me. Its Blue Life -RedCyano Rx. You have to syphon what you can which Nook I know you do. Then treat the tank once. I seem to have to do this once a year. I've used Chemiclean in the past. Didn't have the immediate response I do with RedCyano Rx. You've seen pics of my tank. No impact on coral or fish.

So what does that stuff actually do? What's it made of? How does it work? I see cyano pop up in my tank twice a year. Spring and Fall. Eventually it just goes away. I've got some Chemiclean in my supplies because I bought it with some other stuff when a friend shut his tank down, but I've never used it.

I think some of the liquid varieties of this stuff are made of beneficial bacteria that basically out compete the cyano for nutrients, basically starving it out.

But what's the powdered stuff made of?

Got some Chemi Clean from Chad at Gateway Aquatics, added 14 scoops. Turned the skimmer off right away because just like Chad told me, it went nuts :D

I'll update in a few days, appreciate everyone's help:)

Well, got home tonight after 24 hours and the water column was noticeably red. Tried turning on the skimmer but it overflowed quickly on the lowest setting. Turned the lights off, increased the Tunze pumps to maximum flow to increase oxygenation. One of Ram's damselfish was dead and several fish looked stressed, and the blue eye Kole tang was icked up. Will do a water change tomorrow when I get home and hope my fish aren't all dead. Still a fair amount of cyano on the rocks and substrate as well.

Any suggestions?
