Why?

I have been keeping sps for a while now and see great growth.

I have noticed one thing though....they all turn green?????

Alk runs between 8.5-9
Calc 450
Mag 1350-1400
Nitrate 4ppm
Phos 0.03

There are a lot of things that could influence coral to change color. Light spectrum is one. Another is trace elements and aminos and vitamins. Higher iron levels have been shown to influence coral to turn green. Also lower par levels can play a role. Its really hard to say what is happening without a Lot more info. good luck and maybe this will help you come up with an answer or at least get some more info

Iron has been mentioned to me today already.

I use the Fauna Marin Balling Lite method to maintain my system along with the addatives.

I was recommended to stop using the addatives and measuring the iron content to see where the tank was sitting.

I can see and iron test kit being purchased in the near future.

One question though....how do I reduce the iron in my tank:hmm6:

If the extra iron has been from the additives, then you should be able to do water changes to lower the iron in the tank.

Iron, would turn your yellows green in a low nutrition system, and would cause algae bloom in higher nutrition systems.

what color were the corals originally ? that now turned green ?

if white, and now green, then look for nutritional Issues.

Of course JME,

LED would not have very much at all to do with it. It would be a chemical pigment response due to nutritional issues from metals, minerals, etc.

I had the same problem with all my sps corals that have yellow color, until I brought phosphate and nitrate down to 0, they all got back to their true color.

I run an ATI 8x54W Sunpower Dimmable.

A lot of the corals were given to me browned out ( I don't know what colour morph they were originally ).

Others, and I will pick out a red abrotinoides, has morphed into a metallic green.

All various different hues of green...but all green. They all grow well though.

Everything that I have read suggests not to run an SPS tank at these levels and that a trace of nitrate and phosphate is required to maintain sps corals.

It's good to know that, now I don't need to worry too much about nitrate and phosphate.

Well I bought a Red Sea Reef Colours test kit today.

Tested the Iron level- 0
Potassium - 420
Iodine- 0.3

So I don't have an Iron issue.

Any other thoughts?

There are a number of red corals that will be green under lower light levels. I have a bird's nest at the bottom of my tank that is red and green, and if I move it up it will turn all red. Red planet will also do the same thing, it will be green and red under lower light or all red under intense light. I have never seen a red planet all green but I suspect this is more than possible. You may actually have a few things going on in your tank. If everything is healthy I wouldn't change too much at once.

IMO zero p04 and zero nitrates or anything close to zero is best. People are now getting the wrong impression about ulns since people were driving there levels to low. The average of zero or close is best with sps.

Nah, I'm leaving be at the moment.

The only thing I have added recently ( a week ago ) was a phos reactor.

Hi,

my yellow acro is becoming green! PO4 and NO3: 0 (Elos high resolution). Initially I thought it was LED (before T5)... but, I do not add iron but use rowaphos. Resins based on iron. I stop it and I'm waiting...
