SPS vs GSP

My GSP is growing out of control. In one area is has come in contact with a Stag horn. Needless to say the GSP is winning the battle. I really like the GSP, having it grow on to my overflow but I like my SPS even better. I'm looking for suggesting on how it keep the GSP contained in a certain area. The only thing I can think of is, Kalk paste. Will this even work? Any other ideas?

I probably should have posted this in general topics, but I thought I would try here first.

I had the same problem I used aquamend epoxy, or you need to take the rock out and scrape it.

the only ways to contain it are to put it somewhere where it can only grow into dark areas, or grab some tweezers and a hard tooth brush and prune it occasoinally.

Unfortunity there are the stag and a monti growing on that rock so I don't want to take it out. In some ares I have been useing a pair of medical scissors to trim/scrap but there is one particular area where it is going to run into the monti where I can't fit my hands.

I don't know how the epoxy would work considering every time i've used the stuff after a while it gets incrusted with algea/coraline/debri. I would think GSP would do the same, eventually growing on top of it.

I used a few tubes of it mend and directly apply over all the gsp at least 1/4 inch thick.

OK, sorry I misunderstood. So you used it as a blanket to smuther it out completely.

Unfortunitaly this is not an option for me. Maybe as a temperary fix.

you can try makeing some kalk paste , turn off the pumps and put the paste on the spots where you want it to die off , let it sit for a while and suck off any excess paste before turning your pumps back on. just like you were to treat for aptasia, im sure after a few applications it will kill back the gsp

Beautiful tank, Ratkiller!

The best way to control GSP is to keep your nutrients extremely low, but all those other soft corals you have aren't going to like that either.

I've found vodka dosing/vitamin C dosing to be a good way to retard the growth of GSP. I have it in my system (albeit in a different display tank from my SPS) and it grows really slow.

Neither phosphates nor nitrates are detectable and haven't been detectable for months now. The only soft corals I have that grow much are zoanthids and one specie of Xenia (yet, not other species of xenia).
