SPS Xmas Tree Decoration Time.

just an idea but how about a charity auction or help a family out around christmas?
I wish I had enough corals to make a tree and donate the $$ to a needy family.

I told my wife we needed more ornaments for the tree, she got suspiciously excited. Then I showed her your tree and she started laughing and agreed. Thanks for humoring my wife into some new pieces.

Glad it did the trick for you mate lol.

That looks pretty COOL Biggles! I likey very much. :D

Thanks Sahin, btw you owe me $150- mate - i spent it as a direct result of seeing your beautiful acros and that new super bright ATI hybrid you're running..... my acros are getting an early Xmas present thanks to you ;)

Creative idea. Beautiful corals. Nicely done.

What, don't you have a job or a wife or kids or something? ;)

Thanks mate lol.

That is hysterical . . . way to get into the holiday spirit.

Would love see this once those piece encrust.

Thanks for sharing

Glad you like it mate, i'll be updating the tree pics as things grow.

Best Christmas tree I've ever seen! Beautiful SPS, and I can't wait to see how the tree turns out!

Thanks, it did turn out pretty good.

That is one of the coolest ideas I have ever witnessed!! What did you make your tree out of Im trying to get in on this action

Good man, i glued 2 pieces of 1/8" black acrylic together as i had no 1/4" acrylic handy. I then used a jigsaw to cut the shape and super glued the tree to a couple of frag discs i also glued together for some weight at the bottom of the tree.
I hope to see you join me here with a tree mate

Verry cool best tree ived seen..

Thanks buddy.

Dude, your corals are amazing, where do you buy from?

All my corals are wild collected from the GBR and purchased from two LFS's in Melbourne Aus.

love it ...curious to see it grow out please keep it going

Thanks mate, will do :)

I want an update 2 months from now ;), don't you dare throw that tree in a fire or send it to the wood chipper!

The only thing the tree will be getting thrown into is a much larger tank in the new year.

HAHA that's great :)

Thanks guys.

I always buy presents for the charity trees at Xmas, i hate thinking about kiddies going without at such a time. I only know one other reefer so i don't really have the numbers for an auction lol. Very nice reminder for all of us though to think of others during the holidays mate. :)

nice ! and you have beautiful corals !

Thanks Allmost, appreciate the words mate.

All the decorations are settled in and should start staking their claim on real estate over the coming weeks.

1/8" acrylic. I only know because I asked the same question. It was a great idea wasnt it? It looks so nice im going to give it a shot

Here's the tree out of the water so you can get a better look at it guys. I would advise using 1/4" or thicker so you have a decent surface to stick the frags too, as i said earlier i stuck two pieces of 1/8" together so i was cutting the tree from 1/4" black acrylic. From the offcuts i cut a couple of small triangles and stuck them to the front so i had acrylic branches pointing forward rather than a 2 dimensional cut out shape.

Thanks for the picture. Im going to borrow my pops scroll saw tomorrow and going in search of black acrylic. I am not really sure where to go though I was thinking home depot or a craft store? Where did you find black acrylic?

You should be able to get acrylic in different colors at any large hardware dept store chain. Your Home Depot most likely carry it in the US. I used a hand held electric jigsaw as the Dremel is too slow. A hacksaw works fine with a coarser blade than you would use on metal - less teeth is best.
I should point out that i saw lots of small plastic Xmas trees made for hanging on a real tree that are acrylic and only 3-4" tall in the shops today so using one of those would work great too and no messing about with tools.

I bought one so you would know the sort of thing i mean. Btw, i ate vegemite on toast whilst constructing the tree so you'd best duck out and grab a jar each............ it will put hairs on your chest and works great as an axle grease substitute.........

Looking awesome!
That's one seriously showy tree
What camera are you using for these shots?
You have great color on your acros!

Not sure why one must actually consume the Vegemite...
Why not save yourself the agony and just spread it ON your chest as a hair substitute and passion enhancer???

This is spectacular thread love it.

Lol i knew you'd appreciate the idea Michael. :)

Lol I want to see it grown out =).. Great idea..

Thanks mate.

I'm using my iphone 4 which gives me serious headaches to color correct. Here's a shot uncorrected and a close up of one of the pink acros that donated to the tree which i tried to remove a lot of the blue from that was in the first image i took the cropped closeup from. That sounds confusing lol.......
If i had access to a RAW capable camera i could do a lot better.

Ha a passion enhancer hey......... i can assure you Matt that any woman who gets turned on by vegemite rubbed all over you should be avoided at all costs...... if she does like it there's a strong chance she's a yowie (bigfoot) that's been shaved and taught to speak........ my ex wife comes to mind...:p
