Hi, I've had a squamosa clam for just over a year, in that time it's grown from about 3" to over 5" and has always been full open. Over the past couple of days it's not opened fully and it's starting to worry me.
I've examined it for pyramid snails and can't see any, only thing I saw underneath was a couple of small bristleworms. The tank is 95% sps, calcium is dosed via a ca reactor and I also drip kalk for all top off water. The clam is on the sandbed under 2 x 250w 14k halides.
Parameters
ca 425
kh 10.6
ph 8.2 -7.9 at night
mag 1360
nitrate nil
phosphate nil
temp 26c
Tank is 5x2x2
Fish list:
Tangs....Sailfin, lieutenant, yellow
leopard wrasse
cleaner wrasse
ytb damsel
2 percs
1 male diamond head anthias
9 chromis
royal gramma
Never seen any fish bothering with it.
Inverts
cleaner shrimp
5 peppermints
mithrax crab
35 nassarius
2 large brittlestars
Things I've done recently:
changed ca media from aquamedic hydrocarbonate to A.R.M.
Started dripping kalk
I also have a 5 year old crocea which seems fine as do all the sps.
Do clams close up occasionally for a few days?
Any ideas?
As it is now
And in the full tank shot you can see where it's positioned and how it usually is open.
thanks,
Mark
