Squamosa disturbed

My new T. Squamosa is disturbed by the fishes that swim past it and as a result, its mantle does not open. this happens quite a few times a day. it's siphon is closed though. will the clam die if this continues to happen.
i can't prevent the fish from swimming past it , but they certainly don't nibble on the mantle.....

I sold my Squamosa. I got tired of it's endless closing and tossing water on the floor ever time a fish got too close.

During the years I had it, it was always sensitive, but grew like a weed. It stayed open most of the day....just twitchy.

i see. how abt your experience with maximas and others? are they as sensitive...

Derasa clams can be very mobile and active as well.

I never had a crocea or maxima be all that bothered by activity.
But then again, they tend to be smaller/slower growing so maybe the larger clams are just more noticable since they can get your feet wet!!

I have been told that gigas come from more silt laden/muddy areas than the other species and this makes them less irritated by "normal" activity in the tank.
