I am looking into getting a clam that doesn't require a MH lighting. I have 260 watts on a 55 gallon. Would have squamosa have a good chance of survival if I place him/her close to the top?

Thank you,

Sorry I need to proof read before I submit these threads:

I asked similar question a time ago about getting on in my 28 with 130 watts. Most said that it could be done but the clam would need to be placed high closer to lights and it could be possible for the cllam not to stay there either.

no, I havent yet and I dont think I will because I really dont want to get something that Im not sure about cause I dont want to kill it and I dont want to blow money either.

hey u guys will be fine- T. squamosa, T. derasa, T.gigas and hippo. do well with a PC setup. these clams are deep water species and are used to low light. i have had one for four mo's now under 130W of PC in a 20H. he is always open and shows good growth. make sure u keep ur Ca level up 350>500 ppm. the shell will need this to grow as the clams organs get larger. for more info click on search engine. good luck -

That lighting is sufficient for a squamosa, yet I'd have to say you'd need to put it higher in the tank. it wouldn't be as happy as it would be under MH's, just be sure to keep your calcium levels up, ph and alk, and give it a good amount of lighting!

i did a maxima and a dersea in a 10 gallon nano w/ 96 watt pc for 1.5 years. I recently bumped up to a 175watt MH

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFORMATION. I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT CALCIUM PLAYED SUCH A BIG ROLE IN THE HEALTH OF A CLAM.
