Squamossa shell broke?

Last night I found my squamossa shell broke off about 1 1/4" inch in from the outside edge and broke off at a straight line from bottom to top, unfortunately I lost it. It a great loss to me as I have had him for 1 3/4 years. I bought it when it was 2 inches long and as of last night it was 6 inches long. I am boggle as to why it broke and wondering what could have happen. The lfs that I bought it from has never heard of this happening Nothing could have broke it and nothing fell on it. The alk. was kept at 10.9 and the cal. at 425-450. Has this happen before or is it a unusal thing that happened?

yes, though uncommon others have had this happen to them. how fast did he die?? you can usually place the shell back together and over time the shell will reattach but i'm guessing yours was much worse, do you have any pics??

By the time I found him after I got home from work the nassarius snails were all over it and the mantle was well retracted into the shell. Sorry no pics.

Sorry to hear that, I couldnt imagine having that happen to mine after over a year.
