Stag Coral problem??

I really am quite worried about my Stag Coral. It is quite small about 3" tall but has doubled in size since I got it 5 months ago. It has been doing really well. This morning I found that the polyps on one of the branches have gone leaving what appears to be the white skeleton.

I have subsequently dropped it into some Tech-D in case of bacterial infection but was wondering, does anyone else know what the problem might be or if they have experienced the same issue and how did they resolve it?

A few things can cause this, you could have a fish that is picking at the affected area, or it could be bleaching due to a problem with your water, and a few other things. Check your Alk and Ca.

If its only one branch, and you don't think its a fish, try fragging the affected branch. I would also frag a good piece and place it across the tank just incase it affects the entire coral, that way you may still have a piece if the main coral dies off.

All of my water parameters are good. Calcium 425ppm, KH 9dKH, mg 1300, sg 1.025. I strive to keep my tank water in tip top condition so am really stumped as to why this might happen.

If it is a fish that is picking at it, wil lthe coral recover?

Only if the fish leaves it alone. Do you have any gobies, angels, or a fish that likes to perch on your corals?

Dwarf Flame Angelfish

I have only noticed today that a dwarf Falme Angelfish I have keeps tugging at the white branch but I doubt the angelfish coul get to the base of the coaral due to the spikes.

Is there any way I can distract the Flame Angel? I really don't want to have to remove the Angel but if it continues to tug at the Stag, I really will not have any alternative but to remove it.

Has anyone had a similar problem with success at solving the issue??
