Stagnant Water

I recently set my 210 up with just water, salt, sand (not live) and return pump. When out of town, we lost power and the return pump did not kick back on leaving the water without circulation for 7-8 days. There was a noticeable film on the surface before I got the pump running again.

Would using some quality carbon be enough to make this water safe before transferring by live rock over from my other tank or should I take some other precautions such as an antibiotic?

The tank will be fallow for more than the next month since I haven't added any fish to the QT yet.

Thanks
Mike

I think running carbon would relieve any concerns. But it's more of a judgement call. Does the water have a bad smell to it? Or just the film?

You might also want to post this in the Reef Chemistry forum; or ask a member of staff to move this thread there for you.

Skimmer and/or filter sock? If so, just run it and let the system take care of it. Going to cycle the tank anyway, not a biggie.

Definately an antibiotic is a bad idea. Carbon or jusst leave the pump circulating. Maybe move one rock in to re-seed the tank and get bacteria processing waste then the rest in a week or so.
