Stain danger

There was a recent post about a fire caused by fiberglass. This can happen but is rare. A real danger for DIYers is the improper disposal of rags used with stain. Most oil base stains contain linseed oil which is a common cause of spontaneous combustion. Stain rags should be stored in a bucket of water , a sealed metal containeror spread out flat and allowed to dry. The danger comes from a wadded up rag that allows the heat to build. Never throw a fresh stain rag in the trash can.

thanks for the advice bassnman. I'm just getting ready to stain my stand, I'll make sure to let me rags dry before throwing them away.

I'd love to hear your comments about my project, if you have any, here .

I stained my fence with a ripped up cotton towel. The rag got so hot that I could hardly hold it! Of course being a TRUE DIYer, I had to pour some more stain on the rag to try to get it to POOF- on the concrete of course:D

Be careful out there.
