1920 home. All gumwood trim. Do I stain the hood to match the gumwood or paint it black?

Black would look awesome just dont forget to wash the saltwater that drips on it of it looks nasty when it dries on there

Don't discount black stain- haha. Paint tends to look cheap (sorry, jmo) but due to the structure of your canopy (lots of small wood pieces) I would go dark to avoid this jumping out at you. In short, my suggest is black stain.

match the stand and canopy. if you dont it will look off. if both were raw wood i would vote stain, it would really show off your handy work..! but seeing that you already have a black stand paint the canopy black. jmo

oh man...it's 7 to 7. what if i did this? left the bottom black...stained the top...but i'm getting some really fancy molding (crown and chair rail) at HD today....what if I stained corresponding trim to tie in the black stand with the top and the top with the bottom...will, you've been to my house...you know how the parlor is kinda of 1920 gothic...what if i tapped into that theme?

Ah, I thought you were doing the set (stand and canopy)...

In this case, whatever the stand was done in, do the canopy as well (ie, black paint, then black paint.)

You can remove me from the stain list if the stand is painted.

ok ok...this is an idea i'm toying with....picture the gold part being the wood...this is how i would tie the stand and the hood together...

You can't count on the poll anymore Kat. Some folks want to change there vote. I believe Paint is in the lead. Maybe you should have a re-count. But beware, this may require a judge determine the voter's intent.

okay...minus the flowers (why is this popular? gack.) this is what i am thinking about to incorporate the stand and canopy...because i can remove the doors at the base and strip them to the wood.....including doing some of the scrolling......comments?

Kat I think you should incorporate some of your art into the stand and canopy. Maybe get a nice rock work look with painted corals. Not sure how it does with ware and tear but just an idea. I don't see you doing any of this in a single, solid color

thanks, G. Yeah...I don't see myself going that direction either. I've put so much time and love into this that I want it to be an entire piece of art...not just the tank itself. toying with some ideas...when i'm not sleeping tonight? will do some sketches...see what happens...but I am liking the idea of the black and stain...using some of the scrolling and a bit of my own art/sculpting thrown in. whatever i do...i want to make sure the stand/canopy does not take away from the tank itself...and I do want to stick with the 1920 parlor theme i've got going....by the way the poll is going...almost neck and neck...it might be best to try and work this together in a very theatrical sort of way......
