So I got a wild hair Today and decided to start building the stand for my new Solana 34.

The Target Completion Date for everything is October/November when we move into our new house. The Goal is to have both form and function, I would like to have access to the sump from the front and side panels. There will be plenty of time to build and figure things out. In the meantime I am maintaining my current AIO Solana and continue to watch it grow.

Specs: 36WX22WX32H

Picked up some 2X4X8s at Home Depot and stuffed them into my GTI.

the stand that I am building now is baltic birch. You can find birch plywood at home depot and lowe's, but it's not baltic birch. Not that you really need it I guess, I'm just a big fan. I've only seen that at woodworking suppliers. When I used to build museum crates, baltic birch was what we usually used. It comes in an odd sized full sheet- 5 x 5-ish, or smaller. The individual plys are thinner that other plywoods, so there's more layers. I have also yet to see any voids in the plys of the hundreds of sheets I've cut. Since you already have a stand built, you could mostly use thin sheets, which wouldn't cost too much, and then get a good clear sealer.

if you have a router, you could go for laminate.

painted can be super awesome. The stand for my Vitrea is just a high qualilty MDF underneath a dynamite gloss white paint.

Like zrogst, I'm a big fan of blond woods, so I like birch, beech, maple.

I saw an ADA Laminate that looked cool. But all the DIY's say its hard to work with. I think that would look cool.

For some reason the Color combo in my head is something like the picture below White with a nice thick wood for the top. .. I think this would be perfect if the tank goes in our den. If it stays in the great room I would like the color to be similar to the cabinets in the kitchen which are a darker color.

Any links to your stand?
